Branding Challenge Day 19. Create the perfect press release

October 12, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 3 Comments

Create the perfect press release to Shout About Something Newsworthy

Press releases are a tool I don’t hear a lot of buzzes  about – mainly because I think the focus in marketing is on writing articles, blogging, JVing, etc. But it’s something you shouldn’t overlook. Create the perfect press release when you have got something to really shout about – like a new product launch.

In fact, all of my guru clients always had me write press releases (I charged $100 per page) for each project they released. They just don’t teach it themselves a lot.

I just recently saw E. Brian Rose (one of the JVZoo founders) link to his press release, which was picked up by Yahoo Finance   – so the top dogs are in fact using Press Releases, but the littler marketer hasn’t been using them to build a buzz.

So one tool that regular non-Internet marketers use when they want branding and coverage is a press release. There’s a WHOLE different way of writing a press release that I’m going to teach you because I see a lot of disasters.

The great thing about press release sites is that they’re similar to article directories in that other people can pick them up and use them on their own sites. News directories and websites will grab it – sometimes even an offline publication searching for experts in a particular niche.

This series is all about branding you as an expert or leader, so that’s what this tool is perfect for! You might even pick up some media interviews in magazines, newspapers or even Television.

The Goal of Your Press Release

Create the perfect press release
Forget article marketing. Clear your head of everything you’ve learned. There’s a reason press releases are so costly compared to other services – they’re well-crafted newsworthy stories.

The goal of your press release is to help position you as a leader as you share some sort of opinion and insight on a trendy topic. We can all find something trending in our niche somehow – use Google news and DIG.

I was so scared of submitting press releases when I was starting out as a blogger because the traditional publications said that if you sent a poor press release, it would go straight into the trash and they would never read anything you ever sent again.

That’s a lot of pressure! But that pressure is good because it forces you to craft this carefully – not whip something up in a flash and put it out there. That’s the wrong way to do this, so feel free to take a week or more to get this tool mastered. Don’t rush it.

You’re going to be coming up with a news slant, writing an informative piece with YOU as the quoted resource, submitting it to the proper PR outlets, and then doing a few other tasks to help spread the news of its existence.

Here’s the good news and bad news – and it’s one in the same. You only have ONE page to use for your press release.

That’s good because it alleviates the pressure you may feel of having to create something long and intimidating. It’s bad because some people like to babble on and on, and cutting their words down to a single page is excruciating for them.

How to Write a Press Release

First, I want you to think about your own expertise or leadership role in your niche. Don’t go all Eeyore on me and start saying nobody cares about you or your opinion – get an ego and think of how you can brag about yourself!

The first thing you want to do is link about what makes you qualified to lead this niche. It could be based on time dealing with the niche, personal experience in it, the fact that you’ve helped someone else in the niche, the knowledge you’ve accumulated, etc.

You can quote yourself in the Press Release as the expert.

Like this:

…said Catherine Ford, Psych-K practitioner.

Yours might be something like this:

…said Leo Randall, owner of diabetescurediet.com.

Or:

…said Tom Knightly, relationship blogger at MeetMrRight.com.

Just have a blurb figured out and a few reasons why you feel qualified to help others in your niche. It can be based on personal experience, an education you’ve gained, or anything that makes other people feel like listening to you.

The Formula of a press release

When you write your press release, put everything important in the beginning and the least important items at the bottom. With Internet Marketing, you have often been taught to do the opposite, such as hook the reader at the beginning with something that will make them wonder.

You can’t do this with a press release. You need to be straightforward and factual in the outset. In that JVZoo press release, for example, it starts off full of facts – nothing vague and curious. Here it is:

“JVZoo.com, the premiere online marketplace for digital information products, today announced its members had generated over $75,000,000 in revenue since the site’s launch in 2012, proving it is a force for independent job creation in the wake of global economic hardship.”

Nothing intriguing about that. You know what the story is about immediately.

So what are your facts?

It can be something about the niche. So for instance, let’s say I wanted to write a book about a make money online course.

I might cite the Census statistics and say something like this: “With Census statistics showing more than one-third of Americans on welfare, new online entrepreneur course helps jobless have some hope.”

Or, if your course has already sold a certain amount or helped a set number of people, you could cite that instead. The first paragraph should always be the main slant of your story. Whatever it is you want them to know – spelled out quick and easy.

Make sure you don’t write anything spammy.

You don’t see that JVZoo introduction says, “Learn how to CRUSH the competition and give your boss a pink slip by joining our done for you marketplace…” (You get the point – no spam or hype – just the facts, please).

The same goes for your headline. Notice that Yahoo Finance picked up the JVZoo press release – because it was impressive and clear. So how do you turn a perceived boring topic into a newsworthy opening and headline slant?

Well, let’s say you want a press release for your diet blog. But it’s a review site, and you’re not even creating anything yourself. Since it’s a review site, think of something you, as a reviewer, have discovered in your blog journey.

So for instance, it might be like this:

“Diet Blogger Suffers Backlash for Refusing to Endorse Unsafe Trends” (if you’ve gotten a comment from someone disagreeing with you, for example). Or…

“Weight Loss Advocate Warns Too Many Women Flirting with Diet Dangers” (if you want to promote a safe weight loss mindset as opposed to a fad one).

Numbers always do well. So let’s say you run a diet blog and you try out different diets and report on them. You might use a headline and slant like this: “Diet Blogger Sheds 28 Pounds Trying on New Diets for Size!”

Usually, with a press release form, you’ll have your headline and introduction, but in between that is a space for a subhead. That’s where you expand on the headline a bit, but continue being newsworthy and factual and not riddled with hype.

As you craft the body of your press release, keep getting the most relevant facts out first. You want the reader to have gotten the gist of it just by reading your headline if nothing else.

You never know which part of the press release will make them stop reading. So in your body, you’ll include more facts – and also a quote or two. You can quote yourself in the press release. You don’t have to interview another expert. You can also get quotes from clients or customers if you want.

And at the end of your release, you’ll have room for your “for more information, go here” portion of the story – which is most important to you because it means increased traffic and possibly sales.

So here’s what your formula looks like:

* Headline
* Sub-headline
* Introduction paragraph
* Quote paragraph
* Details paragraph
* Quote paragraph
* Details paragraph
* For more Information paragraph

That’s about all the room you’ll have if you keep it at the desired one-page length. In your introduction paragraph, always start it with bold lettering that gives the following information: (City, State) Date – (then start the paragraph).

At the very end of your press release, end it with ### – which is the standard signal for “the end” in the Journalism world of press releases.

Where to Submit Your Press Release

You should use press releases as often as possible. Don’t just use them for product launches or blog launches. Use them for blog posts, too! You might want to find a good ghostwriter who understands how to create newsworthy press releases and have them develop one for some of your most riveting content.

On most press release sites, like the ones below, you’ll typically find both a free and paid option. There’s no need to go insane with your memberships. Start out free if you’re on a budget and if you start seeing good branding results, then see which service is providing it and maybe increase your membership on the top one to see if it makes a big difference.

Here are some of the most popular ones:

Create the perfect press release and start with the top three. Then try to find a news site specific to your niche that accepts press releases – for example, a health site or a financial site. You might get better results going with a narrower, niche specific PR site than a broad one.

Give more Value, and Increase you Conversions

October 11, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 3 Comments

“Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first” (Robert Jones Burdette)

Have you ever read a blog post that talks down to the readers? It’s as if the writer believes their knowledge means they should be rewarded- automatically. We live in a world where rights and privileges get confused. To Give more Value, and Increase you Conversions, This attitude has to change.

Often people think they have a right to infringe on other people’s rights to get what they want! They behave a society owes them something.

In turn, they suggested their readers that they deserve something irrespective of whether they can afford it or not. Sometimes they are playing to the fact that their readers have a sense of injustice.

The person who has had a traumatic experience in early life may want to compensate by buying everything and anything in sight maxing out his credit cards.

Jean Twenge, in her book “Generation me and a narcissism epidemic” discovered that the younger generations have a disconnect. They want greater material wealth, but they have a decreased desire to work. There is some evidence that selfies and self-promotional blogs fuel this mistaken belief that people are superior.

The Problem With a Sense of Entitlement

The obvious downside is the fact that you’re not inclined to work as hard. You are more inclined to think you should have things based on who you are or what you have been through. Unfortunately, this prevents you from taking responsibility.

You’re making unrealistic demands on your readers by focusing on gaining what you think you deserve. It will be impossible for you to contribute to a relationship with them.

You will become focused on what you’re not getting. Unfortunately one of the laws of the universe states that what we resist we attract.

By doing this, you will attract to you more loss. In turn. This will lead to a feeling of bitterness, and you will feel victimized.

Don’t think you are An Affluenza

Give more Value, and Increase you Conversions
For those that don’t know what affluenza means, it’s like being Donald Trump. You think you are above the law because of who you are. You can dismiss sexual harassment by calling it locker room chitchat.

The harsh reality is, whether you’re the smartest person on the planet or had a childhood the most perverse conditions you don’t become more deserving of anything including good fortune more than anyone else.

Before money came into existence trade had existed. Men and women the world over had exchanged things of value for other things of value. Because they had no currency in the form of money they had to set a price regarding value.

So a farmer may have sold a field of corn to a blacksmith and in return had his horses shod for a year!

There was no other way of establishing value except between two parties.

Use that concept today

It would do no harm to think of your business in that way today.

Your problems are not unique. No one’s life can never be the same as yours, but people have equivalent sorrows, letdowns, and tragedies.

If you can recognize your customers’ pain and respond to it in a natural way, you will give them more value.

You can change how you respond to your readers without thinking you are more deserving of anything.

All of you will have heard of stories about cancer patients with a short time to live, yet they are determined to achieve something. They want to make their mark on the world before they leave it. They may want to raise money for a charity or another course. However, they give value to do it.

It’s not their mentality to ask why me? It’s their mentality to think they are one of the luckiest people alive.

Focus on your efforts, not your importance

If you want more customers, you need to change how people perceive you. To do that, you need to change your attitude. Focus on what you’re giving people; there is always room for improvement.

Accept criticism gracefully. You will get feedback, not all of it is pleasant. However, you can use the feedback to learn and grow. Feedback is always given based on how a person perceives you, to change that you have to change yourself and your attitude.

Recognizing that you have unattractive characteristics problems and insecurities will help you to communicate with your customer. They have the same challenges, use it as an excuse to interact with them on a more meaningful level.

The more you can empathize with your customer the more likely they are to trust you and spend money with you.

Stop and think how other people feel. I am sometimes impatient, and I have to rein myself in very hard otherwise, I can appear to make people look stupid, and that is never my intention.

If you think you’re entitled to more than you have, you will waste a lot of time and energy. That time could be better spent understanding your customer and your niche.

The center of the universe mentality is not attractive.

If you feel, you are better than other people in most tasks it will show in your writing.

You should bring yourself and your personality into your writing because it allows your readers to empathize with you. But that doesn’t mean you have to talk about yourself more than other people.

Think about how you can give more value and give more expertise to your customers. What are they really need?

Would they benefit from a free report? A free report they could download without an opt-in will increase their trust in you. Again trust is an important issue when people come to buy from you.

Dumping the world owes you a living mentality will help you build credibility with your customers and increase conversions because you will be giving more value on a daily basis.

Branding Challenge Day 18. Marketing Strategies for Product Owners 2

October 10, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team Leave a Comment

BRANDING CHALLENGE DAY 17 IS HERE

Marketing Strategies For Promotion

Now it’s time to take a look at the marketing channels and tactics you think you’ll use to promote your products and services. Again, because you’ll be referring to your marketing strategy often, it’s a good idea to write down your reasons behind each marketing channel decision and even some thoughts on how you’ll use it. Common marketing tactics include, but aren’t limited to

  • Website
  • Branding
  • Content marketing
  • Blog
  • Social media
  • Email marketing
  • Direct marketing – postcards, brochures, flyers
  • Advertising – online advertising and print advertising
  • Live events – webinars, seminars, workshops
  • Affiliates
  • Referral program

6 Creating and Defining Your Brand

What do you want people to feel when they think of your business? Your brand is the core message that people receive. It’s part of every single marketing piece you will ever create, or it should be. A robust and consistent brand helps your prospects know what to expect. So what do you want them to expect from you?
Your brand is more than your logo, which symbolizes your brand. Your brand is the voice you use in your content. It’s the message that you send to your audience and the feelings that you evoke in them. Your brand encompasses all areas of your business including.

It can be tempting to leave certain areas of your business outside fo the confines of your brand. This is usually a mistake your brand is your business and cannot be treated separately. :-Your brand includes but is not linited to:-

    • Reputation
    • Customer Service
    • Your Promise
    • Price
    • Feeling
    • Tag line
    • Attitude
    • Logo
    • Product Line

Think about vigorous and memorable brands like McDonald’s, Nike, or Amazon. What three or four words do you think of when you think about those businesses?
Now, what three or four words do you want people to think of when they encounter your business? Work on creating a tagline that evokes the feelings you want people to have. Work on your logo, and decide what voice and message you want your brand to communicate.

7. Budget

This component is pretty straightforward. How much money do you have to spend on marketing right now? What percentage of your profits will you allocate toward marketing? Also look at the marketing channels you can afford right now. For example, can you manage a small PPC campaign, email marketing, and blogging?
Think about what tasks you can manage yourself and what marketing channels and efforts you’ll need to outsource. Price out the cost for the outsourced tasks. For example, a professionally written sales page can cost a thousand dollars or more. It’s important to have this information before you begin creating your marketing budget.
You may also begin planning for the future and document how you’ll expand your marketing budget as your sales and profits increase. What are your priorities? What marketing channel will you add first? For example, will you begin hosting live events or send direct mail pieces? How will your budget be allocated as your business grows?

8. Your Marketing Goals

This may be the most important element of your marketing strategy. Your marketing goals need to be aligned with your business goals. Initially, your marketing goal may be idealistic and unmeasurable. For example, top-level goal may be to “Create the most visible and active brand in your industry.”
That top level goal can then be fine-tuned by using the SMART approach.
026f6196cb2d3e9b54e7553fd72d4948_1476096619_cropped
Specific – What exactly do you want to achieve?
Measurable – How will you know you’re successful? What will you measure?
Attainable – make sure it’s actually possible to achieve your goal. Unrealistic goals are frustrating at the very least and defeating.
Relevant – The goal supports your business goals and your target audience.
Time bound – When will you have achieved your goal? What’s the deadline?
Now measuring brand activity can be difficult. You might measure website traffic, social media interactions, and email subscribers along with brand mentions.

A SMART version of your top level goal may be

To increase brand mentions on social media by 10% in the first quarter. Your marketing goals are the foundation of your marketing plan. Without clear goals, you won’t have a direction for your marketing tactics. You’ll be operating in a void without an objective or a reason for marketing.

Your Marketing Plan

There’s often some confusion between a marketing strategy and a marketing plan. Your strategy is part of your business plan. It’s an explanation of what you need to achieve. Your marketing plan is a roadmap of how you’re going to achieve your marketing goals.
Your marketing plan embraces all of your marketing channels. You’ll create measurable goals with clear deadlines. For example, the goal to increase brand mentions on social media by 10% in the first quarter will be detailed in the marketing plan. It answers the question, “How will you increase brand mentions on social media?”

This is one of the reasons a marking strategy is so important. It’s easy for marketing tactics to get out of control. It’s easy to lose direction. Your strategy reminds you what you want to accomplish and why. It’s also something that needs to be reviewed on a regular basis. Consider revisiting your marketing strategy at least every six months. It may make more sense to review it quarterly. Perhaps when you are starting out it should be re-assessed monthly.
h1<>Measure C

Things change in business because you in certain circumstances your business is driven by circumstances beyond your control. Examples here are profound political changes, such as the British decision to leave the Common market. This could derail a fledging business because of currency fluctuations. Which is why you have to reassess and reassess often especially in a fledgling business.
Assess your marketing goals. Is your marketing plan achieving your goals? Has your target audience, budget, or competition changed? Your marketing strategy isn’t set in stone. It’s a document that can and will change as your business changes. Use your marketing strategy as the foundation for a strong marketing plan and a growing business. It just may be the most useful document you ever create.

Branding Challenge Day 17. Marketing Strategies for Product Owners

October 9, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 5 Comments

The Power of Marketing Strategies

A marketing strategy is part of any well thought out business plan. The goals and objectives you identify in your business plan correspond and support your marketing goals. Effectively a marketing strategy gives you the power to actually decide how you’re going to achieve your business goals. Your business goals are also part of your branding strategy.

Laying the Groundword For Your Marketing Strategies

The components of your strategy, which is what we’ll address, lay the groundwork for your marketing plan. Your plan, just to be clear, is a detailed description of the marketing channels and tactics you’ll use to achieve your marketing and business goals. It all fits together to create a well thought out business.

Live By Your Own Rules

Your marketing strategy gives you the ability to make the rules. Those You decide what you’re going to achieve and how you’re going to play the game – the game being “how do I create a successful business?”

As a rulebook, they also incorporate the branding for that business. This branding may be different from your personal branding. For instance, you may work in many niches.

Wearing Many Hats

I work a lot in the prostate niche. I obviously brand that separately. It has nothing to associate itself  with my name. It can’t – how can a woman understand prostrate problems. However, the niche has been branded as a sperate and discrete business entity.
You’ll return to your rulebook, your marketing strategy, quite often to check in, to make sure you’re on track, and to see if any changes need to be made to your playbook, your marketing plan.
There are eight core components of a successful marketing strategy. Let’s start at the beginning.

1. Research

The only way that you can begin to craft a strategy is to know several key factors about your industry. Research is key and good research can mean the difference between success and struggle. So what do you research?

Target Audience
Who are you marketing to? Who will buy your product and why will they need or want it? What are their demographics? For example how old are they and where do they live? What are their psychographics? For example, what are their values? What are they interested in?
Competition
What other businesses are providing similar products and services? How are they positioned in the marketplace? What makes them successful? What are their weaknesses?
Marketplace
Explore seasonal sales, trends in the marketplace, current sales and benchmarks in the industry. This is less about your competition and more about positioning your product or services and exploring the past, present, and potential future for your industry.

2 Your Business Vision and Mission

This is a two-part section of your marketing strategy. Your vision is a statement about where you see your company in five or ten years. Clarity and focus are essential here. It’s easy to get a bit off track.
Think about sales, employees, your purpose in the marketplace and how you’re serving your audience. Your vision can be a paragraph or a page, there are no rules here. It’s simply a statement about where you want to take your business.
They should be memorable, inspirational, clear, and concise. They’re often just a few sentences long, written in the present tense, and ideally they’ll paint a vivid picture of what your company looks like in the future.

vision statements.

Creative Commons: Our vision is nothing less than realizing the full potential of the Internet — universal access to research and education, full participation in culture — to drive a new era of development, growth, and productivity.
Microsoft – A computer on every desk and in every home; all running Microsoft software.

Your Mission Statement

Your mission statement is a bit different. It takes your company’s values into consideration. When you’re trying to define your vision, think about who you’re selling to, what you’re selling and why people buy from you. Here’s Mattel’s mission statement to give you an example.
“Mattel makes a difference in the global community by effectively serving children in need. Partnering with charitable organizations dedicated to directly serving children, Mattel creates joy through the Mattel Children’s Foundation, product donations, grant making and the work of employee volunteers. We also enrich the lives of Mattel employees by identifying diverse volunteer opportunities and supporting their personal contributions through the matching gifts program.” (Source: MissionStatements.com)

3 Products or Services

Describe the products and/or services that your company offers. How does your product relate to your audience? How does it solve their problems? What products or services do they currently use and how/why will they choose you?
Earlier in your business plan, you may have outlined your business model. If that plays a significant role in your products or services, for example, you offer a membership site/service, then that information will be readdressed here in the marketing strategy section of your business plan. Keep in mind that it’s a description of your products or services here that are most important, not rehashing your business model.

4 Price

This may be the most difficult aspect of your marketing strategy. It’s where you determine the pricing structure for your products or services. Be sure to include the reasoning behind the pricing structure for each product or service.
You’ll likely come back to your marketing strategy on a regular basis and it can be difficult to remember why you made certain decisions. Documenting your reason for your pricing decisions will help you achieve clarity.
This is also where the concept of a sales funnel may come into play. If you have a freebie or entry level product, you may want to map the upselling and cross-selling process. What order will people most likely buy your products or services?
For example, will they buy the book first and then sign up for the coaching consultation? Will they attend your paid weekend event, then buy the book, and then sign up for coaching? Understanding the likely buying process will help you price the products accordingly.
Keep in mind the pricing structure of your competition here too. If you’re significantly higher priced than they are, what justifies the difference? Why will people pay more for your products or services?

These are the first four components of a marketing strategy – tomorrow in Part two we will cover the next four.

Branding Challenge Day 16 Video Marketing Part 2

October 8, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 1 Comment

Put Your Best Foot Forward Video Marketing

If appearances are really concerning you, making you doubt your ability to be a video marketer, then let’s look at how you can lessen your self doubt in that area. First, take the time to properly fix your hair and makeup (if you wear it).

Don’t start panicking, think you have to look like a supermodel. Have a look at some of your competitors in your niche. You will find the majority of them were perfectly normal clothes while doing a video.

You don’t have to get a professional blow dry or go to the salon. Just comb or brush it neatly and look just as you would look if you were going on a job interview, for example. Don’t worry if you do not resemble a model – few marketers in this business do.

Second, don some clothes that make you feel good about yourself. All they’ll be seeing is from the torso and up, so don’t worry about dressing to the nines. All you need is a good shirt or blouse. If you want a formal look then wear a jacket, preferably in a dark colour

Depending on the message you want to present, you could even wear a t-shirt if you wanted – just make sure it’s clean and presentable, not stained with food drippings or torn at the edge.

Look Relaxed

Your videos should look as if you’re sitting across the table from someone (the viewer) at a café, having lunch. When people tell you they feel connected to you from your videos – like they’re having lunch with an old friend – you’ll know you’re doing it right.

The objective is to show you and your brand as you really are. It can be a mistake to make these videos too professional. The idea is that your readers can bond with you. If you are too formal or very stilted, then you are more likely to turn your readers off.

video marketing

Common Mistakes

You should never make the common mistake of holding the video in your hand up close. No one wants to view a close up facial shot. The video should have you sitting back so that your shoulders are showing along with your head. I use a tripod to keep my video camera stable on my desk.

If you don’t have a tripod steady the camera by propping it up or using a stand for it. If you hold it, then not only will you probably look too close, but the video will be slightly shaky from your hand and not as smooth as you want it to be for those watching.

The Background

It’s important that you set your mind at ease when making videos by ensuring the room around you is pleasant. Instead of relying on fancy lamps, use natural sunlight.

Open the blinds or shades and watch the room fill with the best lighting for your videos. If it’s too dark still, then strategically place small lamps from your home around the room until you achieve the look you want.

If the space behind you is cluttered, consider either recording against a blank wall or investing in an affordable backdrop. You can order beautiful room dividers off Amazon that give your videos a nice, professional appearance.

Just make sure everything looks tidy – and that your family isn’t running around in the background causing a distraction to the viewers. As you level up with a paid video course, make sure you do everything you can to improve the aesthetic quality of your recordings. Also, don’t let your pets be in the same room. It may be that the viewer can’t see your pets, but they can hear them. A dog gnawing on a bone is very annoying in the background.

Learn How to Level Up and Build Confidence

Video marketing success comes with practice. Aside from repeatedly engaging in making a video, which will put you at ease over time, you can find other ways to improve your confidence with this media format.

First, watch other marketers, see how they do video. Are they relaxed and laughing, or are they speaking like a paid, professional commercial? Know your goals before you begin recording.

How long are the videos in your niche by your competitors? If they’re seeing a ton of engagement from 3-5 minute videos and you’re not seeing any engagement on 10-15 minutes, then it’s an indicator that it’s not about length, but the quality that matters.

Location Location Location

Are some people doing videos on location, instead of at home in their office? For example, let’s say you’ve decided to enter the fitness niche. You might start out giving great advice via video from your home office.

But then you hit a wall, and engagement and subscribers go stagnant. One way you can improve is to see what other fitness niche video marketers are doing. You might see that they’re filming on location in the gym.

This is a good way to copy someone else’s success. You’re not hijacking their message, but finding out what the niche demographic prefers when it comes to learning styles.

Another way you can put self doubt to rest is to take the easy route and simply ask fellow marketers and trusted online friends for some feedback. Be prepared to accept it and not get offended.

They might tell you they can’t understand you – that you’re mumbling. Or maybe they’ll say you need better lighting or more energy as you use video. But they also might say it’s fantastic, and you shouldn’t change a thing! One thing to bear in mind is that everyone’s first video attempts are truly awful. You will be embarrassed about how you look or sound.

One of the last things you can do to improve your hesitation in using video is to learn how to use good video editing software. You can create a professional intro to your recording, or edit out mistakes as you go. As you make more and more videos, you will become more assured. I try not to make videos when I am tired because I tend to umm and ahh a lot more than normal. While I can edit these errors out I prefer not to make them.

Branding Challenge Day 15. Video Marketing in Spite of Self Doubt

October 7, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 1 Comment

Video Marketing in Spite of Self Doubt

One of the scariest and most dreaded tasks you may encounter as an online marketer is that of video marketing. Say the words and instantly, hundreds of men and women will retreat into their cave of self-doubt. To do video marketing in spite of self doubt is nerve racking. But that doesn’t stop you overcoming the obstacles.

But it doesn’t have to strike fear in your heart. In fact, it’s one of the easiest and most fun ways to get your message across, once you get out of your own way and start enjoying it.

Has Self Doubt Prevented You from Embracing Video?

Video marketing is basically, using video for the purpose of promoting your business in any way, shape or form. It might be using video to blog, commonly known as vlogging. Or it might be using video sales letters or video for viral, traffic purposes.

It’s a common thing to want to avoid when you’re already unsure about what you’re doing in the online marketing industry. It’s bad enough to put your name out there, but adding your voice and face to the mix almost seems like too much for some people to handle.

You might even prefer text yourself for consumption of ideas – but make no mistake about it – the vast majority of online consumers are now turning to video to get the answers they crave.

Everything from product recommendations to tutorials and advice are now streamed into their world through the use of videos, and it’s a viable media format for almost every niche you can think of.

You’re probably seeing all (or most) of your competitors employing the use of video marketing. You’re sitting on the sidelines wishing you had the confidence to do it, too – but you don’t.

The people using it for video blogs are combining text and video to reach more people – those who have a preference for text, and those who don’t. The marketers using it for product creation are making their products stand out among the crowd of competitors.

Some are even live streaming their insight on places like Facebook – building even more leverage with the community because they’re reachable, consistent and cutting edge.

So you have to make a decision that you’ll begin video marketing in spite of your self doubt. It’s one of the best things you can do to not only reach your audience but also build your self confidence with online marketing.

What About Video Scares You the Most?

Let’s dig into your fears and uncover the root of your self doubt. Because most likely, it’s just all in your head and not anything to truly impact your use of it. The first would be your worry about the technology.

Video marketing can seem intimidating when you start thinking of editing software and intro-exit designs, embedding code and more. But really, take it a little slower, and you’ll see that it’s not all that hard.

Video doesn’t have to be edited. In fact, it’s often better if it’s the raw version that shows you being human and unfiltered. So turn on your smart phone, hit record on your video camera, and start filming!

You can use free platforms like YouTube or pay for access to a site like Vimeo and host your videos there. Embedding is as easy as clicking the share button, copying the code that’s readymade for you, and pasting it in your blog!

As you level up, you can learn new skills. For example, you might want to learn how people get their cursor to have that highlighted yellow circle effect. All you have to do is Google the question and there will be tons of video tutorials walking you through it!

What if your self doubt doesn’t stem from the technology at all, but from something deeper, like worrying that you won’t know what to say and will appear stupid? That’s easy to fix!

Jot down a few simple word or phrase reminders that you keep off to the side to keep your mind on track. That way, when you finish one thought, you can move on to the next without hesitation.

Are you doubting your ability to produce a professional looking video? After all, the big gurus have green screens and special lamps or their productions. The most you really have to worry about is making sure your background isn’t messy.

No one wants to learn from someone who has piles of dirty laundry or dishes stacking up behind them. And it’s best to have minimal distractions or noise in the background, too.

Many people stall out when it comes to video marketing because they look in the mirror and think, “Nobody wants to see me on camera.” That’s a sad thing to say, isn’t it? Ask yourself a question.

When you learn about how to build a blog, do you refuse to learn from someone because they’re going bald, or have a crooked tooth or a nose that’s slightly too big? No, you don’t – because you’re not looking to date the person, you’re looking to learn from them.

People appreciate someone helping them learn the solutions to their problems, and they don’t care about your appearance – or the sound of your voice. They care about whether or not you’ll be able to help them.

Take It Slow to Eliminate Self Doubt

Self doubt comes on strong the faster you go. So sometimes it’s best to take it slow and implement something like video marketing in baby steps. Let’s look at a few ways you can slow down the process and eliminate self doubt along the way.

First, you can start by making private videos. This might sound counter-intuitive, but you need time to get used to the recording process. So record your videos as if someone really will be watching them, and then upload them to your video hosting platform and watch them back as a viewer.

Video Marketing in Spite of Self DoubtWork out all of the kinks ahead of time – before your videos go public. For example, you might realize that your lighting is too dark, or that you can’t hear your voice very well. Maybe you see that you’re not looking at the camera lens, but at yourself in the video as you record.

These are all things you can fix before putting yourself out there. So upload, and then password-protect the video so that only you can view the video. If you happen to be happy with your production, edit the settings and make it live for the public.

Another way to curb self-doubt is to start small and work up to larger videos. A small video might be under three minutes. Then go longer to five, then 10 and later half an hour.

Start with videos where you’re sharing information for free. Nothing puts unnecessary pressure on you more than charging money for something you aren’t sure is any good. So get comfortable creating free videos first.

Then, as your skills and confidence improve, consider creating video courses or adding video to your sales copy for better conversions. This eases you into the process without any anxiety at all.

When it comes to the information you’re sharing in your videos, some people have a tendency to want to blurt out a million different things in one video. But there’s a better, more effective way to handle it.

Pick one nugget of information at a time and make a video about it. One good tip. One excellent product review. Later, if you want to, you can move up to comparison videos such as “Nike or Adidas Shoes?” or multiple tip videos like “3 Good Ways to Get Traffic to Your Blog.”

The Five P’s Of Niche Selection And Profitability. Part 2

October 6, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 1 Comment

The Five P’s Of Niche Selection And Profitability, part 1 can be found here .

Practicality in niche selection

Another of the P’s is practicality. You may want to create the world’s best SEO site, but you don’t know anything about SEO. Well, all I can say is you are too old to believe in fairies! I am not saying don’t dream big, if that is your aim, but put it on the back burner.

Get two sites up and running and earning a $100 a day each and then outsource your dream.

However, for the moment let’s get back to the real world. You need to be able to have the interest to research what you need to know. It does not mean that you have to be an authority to start, just enough interest to be able to know where to get the information you need.

If you are not sure, then go here to find out how to become an authority The video is about half an hour, but it is the only research resource you will ever need.

So you need practicality, because if it is not achievable, then you are setting yourself up for failure before you start. If you cannot isolate and engage your target audience, you will never make a sale

Pain

The pain in terms of niche selection should not be yours it should be the pain of others. Search through your niches forums, blogs, amazon reviews for information related to your ideal customer.

You’re looking for the lingo they use, common problems, questions, any products/websites they’ve used for help, what their current and long-term problems are.

Find out what their “why” is.

Once you know the problems of your target market you can build a profile of your perfect customer.

This allows you to talk to your customer in a more conversational way. Because you understand their pain and frustrations, they will trust you more and spend money. When you can push their buttons or empathize with them on an emotional level then you’ve made selling to them infinitely easier.

Here you will simply jot down all the pain points, wants, needs, desires, fears, etc… that you found out about your ideal customer while doing your detective work in the previous step.

So as an example if you were in the affiliate marketing niche it could look

something like this:

Tired of working for someone else *

Wants to travel *

Want to stop commuting to work*

Wants to spoil their family *

Want fiscal freedom *

Is afraid of being stuck at a dead-end job for the rest of their life *

Struggling with information overload *

Isn’t sure if this stuff really works *

Afraid of being scammed *

etc.

Dig Deep

Use this profile to reflect your understanding of someone’s problems because people almost never buy because they need something, they buy because they want something, or at least think that they do.

Tap into this pain and you have succeeded.

The power of PLR

The final P is are there PLR products in your niche. No, I am not suggesting you use them per se but they are an indication of how profitable and viable the niche is.

PLR means Private Label Rights. If you purchase an original article it may cost you upwards of $20 to pay for one that earns you money. PLR when someone like me writes fifty articles on say peanut allergy and then sells that to a hundred people for less than $10.

There are a lot of people out there who find writing or communication very difficult. PLR is a fantastic way to get together an ebook you can re-brand as a video or other content. Used intelligently it is a fantastic resource or research tool .

If there are already people writing PLR in your niche, then it is a popular niche. However, if they are not then you can write your own PLR and create your own product.

The list below is a list of things I have been asked to write PLR about

The Five P’s Of Niche Selection And Profitability Part 1

October 5, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 6 Comments

To misquote George Orwell, not all niches are created equal. Some are more profitable than others. In the short term, the long term, the holiday period, or in the season. Some are more profitable because the Adwords cost is about $50 and therefore the Adsense potential is very high. The Five P’s Of Niche Selection And Profitability will help you choose a profitable niche.

So Let’s see what the 5 P’s of niche selection are and why you should aim for as many of them as possible.

    • Passion
    • Profit
    • Practical knowledge
    • Pain
    • PLR

What Does Passion mean in the context of affiliate marketing? It means that you are interested in your topic and can find a sustainable amount of subjects to write about to prevent boredom setting in.

Is it imperative?

Yes, it is for me because I found out the hard way what happens when there is no passion. I had a look around at niche marketing and in those days niches were top level domain niches.

I concluded that acne was a profitable niche and there was no real product to sell. Consequently I spent four months researching how acne could be cured by diet alone. I wrote the definitive acne cure diet, as a product. Then I came to write the website content. After five articles I knew that it was not going to go anywhere.

I was bored and tired of the subject. I did get out of it, and it did do me a lot of good, but it was a steep learning curve.

400+ articles

I had to outsource 400+ articles, and I had to get them proofread as well, I could not even face reading them. Now there are people who say that you can’t outsource articles and retain control of your content.

I have never heard so mush tosh in all my life, anyone who thinks that has never outsourced content.  First of all, I did my keyword research diligently, and then I drew up a prototype for each article.I didn’t just jump in and outsource 400 articles to one person.

The prototype I think went something like this. Mention the keyword in the first sentence and then tell them what the article was going to say. Have an introduction of one paragraph with the keyword in. A five or six paragraph article body and an end with the keyword in once, then a summation of about 100- 150 words to recap on what you have just told them.

Don’t try that anymore it no longer works but at the time that was more or less the structure of a good converting article.

I had to Outsource

So the lesson here was I learned to outsource, and I am still an outsource manager today as my Linkedin profile shows. I eventually could no longer maintain the website or even be bothered with it, but I still had a fantastic product. So that was another learning curve, I had to find out to be an affiliate manager. I still do that today, and it taught me how to keep a product in the top ten of the product list for Clickbank for over three years.

So yes without passion you can make a profit but be aware that to be successful you need to outsource.

Most people who make a permanent living online do outsource. There are several reasons for this. Sometimes, something just doesn’t float your boat interest wise. It is cheaper to outsource them than to waste your time doing the work. There is too much to do especially when you have multiple domains.

So yes unless you want to learn to outsource immediately then passion is a definite plus in niche selection. I can tell you because I learned the hard way that it is better to do it yourself and learn exactly the system for your business before you outsource anything!

The second of the P’s Profitability.

To be fair, most niches that exist in the real world also exist online or digitally.Sometimes a target market or demographic are not always conducive to business (If you don’t know the difference between these two read here ) For instance the crochet patterns for teapot covers may not be a great niche, but hey it would not be in the real world.

What you need is a hungry market

The late great Gary Halbert was renowned as one of the best salesman of his time i not ever. When teaching a class one day he asked his students what advantage they would want from him, if the two of them were in competition to make the most hamburger sales. The answers were varies

“superior meat.”
“better price.”
“lower price.” etc

Eventually, Mr. Halbert could stand it no longer, and he burst out that his advantage would bet them all, hands down every time.

His answer was a hungry market!

The Five P's Of Niche Selection

So how do you find out if it is a hungry market?

To have a hungry market it must be an evergreen niche that always has people wanting to solve problems and if Amazon has a book written about it or the Dummies series has a book about it, or is is a magazine on your local new stand then there is already an established market.

Another niche generating method is to look through the categories of the following websites:

Amazon

Head over to Amazon’s Book Department and scroll down the left side until you see all the different categories to choose from. If you see something that interests you write it down then click on it and on the next page there will be a list of even more related categories that you may be interested in.

While you’re browsing through the categories make sure to take a look at the books associated with what you’re currently looking at. Just reading the titles will give you a good

understanding of the types of problems in that niche.

While you have a category selected type in “how to” in the search box at the top and hit enter. What you’ll find is a bunch of books solving popular problems in that niche. This is also usually where the money is in that niche.

Another good use of this trick is doing it without a category selected. While you’re in the books homepage of Amazon type in “how to” again.
Peruse the vast amount of books solving people’s problems. This will especially help you if you’re having troubles finding a niche you’re interested in.

Dummies.com

The Dummies book store is another great website for discovering niches you may not have thought of. It’s pretty much the same process asAmazon – browse the categories along the left side and within each broad category you’ll find more narrow categories.

Now you should have a decent sized list of potential money niches. That covers two of The Five P’s Of Niche Selection, three more tomorrow.

Branding challenge Day 14 – Email and Beyond-About.me

October 4, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team 2 Comments

Something cool happens every time I run one of my $1 PLR sales. I notice that several people have this awesome page after I hit “Send” in a reply back to them that is built all around their brand or persona.About.me created it.

Then in the February 2012 issue of Entrepreneur magazine, I saw a mention of it again – it was #5 in an article titled, “10 Lessons in Brilliant Marketing.”

About.me

The branding tool is About.me and I personally had never used it before now. But I always loved those splash pages I’d see after I emailed someone and now to see they’re getting viral buzz about their campaign made me even more enthusiastic about it.

About.me is an AOL service that’s free. You create a splash page there and it pulls in all of your online profiles so that when someone wants to know more, you don’t have to give them a laundry list of social profiles – you give them one URL– and they can find it all there.

You know what it reminds me of? A billboard. But online. The pictures are big and there’s a little bit of text.

About me

The Meat and Potato

There’s an image, a little content, and then links to the social profiles of the user underneath the text.

But it’s not just an online billboard or business card. You get analytics with this tool, too. So you get to see who’s seeing the profile,

where they’re from, and what they’re doing on the page.

Signing Up for an About.Me Page

So let’s get started with it since it’s building a reputation. Go to www.About.me and sign up.

You’ll need to enter an email address, pick a password, and choose your URL ending. It will be about.me/whateveryouchoose.

I choose about.me/catherineford of course.

Next, you’ll fill out the forms they have to complete your registration. You want to fill in your first and last name and write a biography about yourself. Then you’ll tag your profile with keywords.

You get 2500 characters for your biography. I wrote a kind of a lengthy one, but only because I figure if someone wants to know “what I’m
about,” then this is a good place to tell them.

But they don’t have to be long – I love the short and sweet versions I’ve seen online too, and I might play around with mine.

You get up to 10 keyword tags.

Once you choose those and continue, you will be taken to a screen where you can pick a background for your About.me page.

You can pick one they offer or upload an image of your own. They say the ideal size is 1680 by 1050 pixels.

I picked my favorite one – a Manowar. Later, I plan to go back and put a better headshot on there instead of the Manowar image. Oh, wait! I went in and created one with a Honey Badger!

Honey Badger is my mascot. It doesn’t care – who it offends, who it battles – it’s just doing things its own way, and I admire that. If you haven’t seen the viral Honey Badger video, find it. I like the images that are unique, but the headshot pictures I have right now aren’t good at a larger pixel.

The tabs

At the very top of the page, you’ll see a variety of tabs. Go through and fill those out.

The background is first. Then click on Biography. This is where you can edit what you did before, but you’ll also be uploading a profile picture and writing a headline for your page.

You’ll also upload a picture. Some people make their picture their entire background image. I would need a better resolution image for that. Once I have some professional pictures made, I’ll edit it.

One note: When you first write your biography, it allows you to make paragraphs, but when you get to this screen, you’ll see that they’re all scrunched back up. Go through and separate them again.

It gives you the option at the bottom to show your tags on your profile. Why not? I leave mine checked. Might as well plant the seed in my readers’ minds about what I want to be known for!

Everything can be Customized

On the next tab, you can go through and choose colors for your page. Everything is customizable – from your name to your headline to your links. The next tab lets you choose which fonts you want to use. I leave mine at the default.

Then comes the fun part – adding your services. Click “Add a Service” to enter one of your social networks!

This is what you’ll see pop up:

I’m going to enter my Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Google+, and some other URLs using the last option.

When I click on Twitter, it has me authorize the Application. Same with the others. When I try to add my own URLs it says “Uh Oh, Something Bad Happened – it’s not you, it’s us.”

A Spanner

So no clue what that is – I’ll try to add it later. Okay looks like they’re there! One is my home page, another is the RSS feed it encouraged me to share – and the last is the blog.

The last tab allows people to email you or video chat with you. Your choice.

You can see my About.me page here: http://about.me/catherineford and be sure to share yours with everyone else, too!

We’re not done quite yet!

Navigating Your Dashboard

Once your profile is set up, you’ll be able to access statistics about your profile. Click Dashboard at the top of your page.

When you click on Profile statistics, you can see how many profile views for the day, week, month or year.

You can see the average time spent on your profile and what percentage of those are new visitors.

It has a tab for getting more visitors. You CAN work on driving traffic to this page, and it even suggests Google AdWords, but really – I honestly wouldn’t pay or work hard to get traffic here specifically.

I would (instead), use this as a business card of sorts. Tweet it, have it somewhere on your blog, in a signature file for emails, on

FaceBook, etc.

Traffic-wise, I would work on sending traffic to those individual sites instead.

By the way, About.me has been tied into Klout, so if you click on the “More Data” option, you’ll see a big screen with your Klout data on it.

The Favorites option lets you favorite someone else’s profile. This could be a great little tool for bookmarking who you want to network with

in the future.

The Offers choice is really you paying $5.50 for some “free” business cards. I’m not going to bother.

Go to the Inbox and set up your About.me email address.

When you click on Find People at the top of the page, it lets you look for featured people or find your friends.

This is awesome!

I click Twitter and it instantly shows me 22 people who have About.me pages who I follow on Twitter! I can put them in my favorites, too.

You can do the same for all of the social networking options it gives you – and more importantly, other people can favorite YOU.

This is one of those set and forget things in my opinion. We’re going to want to have one because it’s a good branding tool, and it’ll work for us as an FYI page to tell our overall messages, but it doesn’t require much upkeep.

The Ka-Ching Marketing Model- Money Falls Out of the Sky

October 3, 2016 by Internet marketing for seniors team Leave a Comment

Every week I get emails from people that make me want to tear my hair out. In essence, they say I’m not making any money from Internet marketing. All of these people should be making a full-time living. Everyone, of them, should have as much money as they want or need, yet they still fail! The Ka-Ching Marketing Model makers money fall out of the sky is their dream. Ironically if they did do it right, the money would fall out of the sky.

Why is this?

  • They buy into the reports they buy for seven dollars. These people think this gives them the holy grail of Internet marketing. Unfortunately, they don’t realise that in many cases, these people don’t know diddly squat about Internet marketing.
  • The ATM Internet marketing model is the way to go. You know what I mean you press a button, the machine goes Ka-Ching marketing model, and the money drops down, as if by magic. Aren’t these people too old to believe in fairies?
  • They follow courses that would have been state-of-the-art four years ago. Four years ago these courses would have been $1000 today they sell for buttons. The reason for this is the material is old and outdated and they don’t work.
  • If I had a penny for every person who is trying to make money by sticking up AdSense blog sites, I would never have to write another word.
  • They don’t try to make money, at least seriously until they are absolutely desperate. It breaks my heart how many emails I receive saying I can’t pay my mortgage, my wife’s lost her job, the kids have to go up chimneys et cetera! Because they are desperate, they snatch short-term quick fixes. In fact, you need to create a sustainable long-term business.
  • They are happy to spend three dollars, $5.00, $11 et cetera on crap software which doesn’t work. To make a sustainable online business, you need a system. That system needs a complete and entire checklist so that you do exactly the same things every time you set up a blog site. If you don’t do this, you will make an occasional few pennies here and there, but this isn’t a business this is a hobby.

Be One of The 5 Percent

It is a fact that 95% of Internet marketing wannabes end up failing. They never get out of the buying mode. They are fascinated by shiny object syndrome.
Yet another product has come on the market which offers a faster, more reliable blah blah blah solution. Suddenly they are off on another tangent.

Ironically there is a method which will make Their Dreams Come True

About 10 years ago I was studying psychology at the open University in the UK. Suddenly I realised that to get my psychology degree I needed 360 points. The compulsory psychology section gave me 320 points. I needed to study something else to make up the points.
I chose to study computer technology, and my university lecturers recommended a company called wealthy affiliates. When I joined up I did so for an eight-week course. I am still learning nearly ten years later.
Wealthy Affiliates has changed a great deal over the years. In the old days, it was a keyword research platform. Today it has evolved into one of the most sophisticated training platforms on the Internet.

The WA Way

Wealthy affiliates is a training programme for newbies and experienced marketers. They start at the very beginning. When I say they start at the very beginning I mean they work on the assumption that you don’t even know what affiliate marketing is.

All you need to know is that to succeed at Wealthy Affiliates you need to have the desire to make money online. The training walks you through every step of the way. However, the training is not the reason why would recommend it as the best teaching platform in the make money online niche.

The Hidden Bounty At Wealthy Affiliate’s

The real benefitThe real benefit the wealthy affiliates is the community. The community has thousands, in fact, tens of thousands of active members. Many of these members are active every single day of the year.

They are active in creating training. They are active in the live chat area. The members are serious about helping you.

Wealthy Affiliates have a pay it forward system called “The ambassadors.”

The ambassadors literally spend four or five hours a day helping people achieve their dreams. There are 25 ambassadors. Granted two of them are the owners but that leaves 23 other people spending at least four hours a day helping you.

It’s Not A Done For You System

Don’t be fooled by the amount of help available; it is not a done for you system. To succeed you have to put in the work yourself. It can be for some people a steep learning curve especially if they are beginners.

That is one of the reasons why the support of the whole community is so necessary. We all remember what it was like to start and not really know what was going on.

If you persevere through the first four or five months, you will begin to get the hang of it and start to earn a profit online. The beauty of this business model is that it is totally sustainable.

It has taught you a system. Every business needs a system. In essence, a system is a checklist it means that you can rinse and repeat and start the whole process again with a second business.

I have, to be honest here and say that not everybody succeeds. Some people can’t face the learning curve. However, if you are serious in your dream to make money, online this is the way forward. It is the real deal.

What I can tell you is this. Every single person who takes action and is proactive and ask questions do succeed. They have a success section inside the website, and there are many examples of people having their first 10k week and in some cases their first 10k day.

Wealthy Affiliates offer a free trial membership. There is no time limit on this test you can be a free member for as long as you like. If you choose to upgrade to get to the next stage of training, the cost is $49 a month.

Not everyone does that! There are plenty of members that stay on the free level. Why don’t you go over and check it out today and see how wealthy affiliates can benefit you.
